Evaluation

The concept idea of our experimental film was to have a female in her dreams wondering, the plan was to have her going from one location to another. As the female does this she would be hearing different noises. For example on one location there would be lots of noise  where as the next location  she goes to will have a quitter noise. And to be able to achieve this  me and partner decided to record sounds in location that have a massive differences to each other, for example the sound you will get when you are in the church and the sound you will get when you are in WestStreet. The reason why we decided to this is because when it comes to watching our film we wanted to get  a reaction for our audiences. Meaning when our audiences are watching our film we wanted them to keep wanting to watch more so  that they the could find out what the ending could of been. And for that to happen we thought if we have sounds that have massive difference  to each other then our audience would try to guess or want to know where her next location would of been.

The way we planned to project this was by having split screen of our character travelling to different places. The reason for this was so that when our audiences are watching our film they will have two things to concentrate on. The other reason why we decided  to project our film like this was so that when our audiences  are watching our film they will be busy trying to figure our whats happening in the two split screens and our purpose for this was so that we can grab our audiences attention.

However when it came to showing our draft film to our teacher the idea of the dream sequence towards our film change.d. The reason for this was because it gave the story away with out not having to see the film.  And therefore me and my partner took that scene out . This made our film shorter but it was not a problem as we had time to film and get more shots in which we had done. This effected the idea of the film because after deleting the dream scene and then showing a draft to our class, people did not understand the meaning of the story, they didn't understand why she was wondering.  We then took this feed back and worked on our idea, we changed our idea to be a nonlinear film about a the same female in a parallel world. We still used the split screen to make sense of our idea and tried to show the female in a parallel world by having her walking past herself,  as well as doing opposite things to the other one. This was done in the library scene  when one is walking towards the camera backwards and the other one walking away from the camera. We also tried to show it was in a parallel world by having them meet at the end of the film face to face.

Our influences came from different film makers for different specific scene. For  example our first influences was a short film called Choros by Micgeal Langen,  he has influenced us in film by having more than one character to appear in our screen. This is show in our film when the two characters are walking right past each other on the bridge. Our second influence is a film called Inbindable Volume, this film has influenced us on some of our shots as well as location to film our film. From these film we was influenced on the library scene when on of the characters in walking in a reverse shot and the other one walking away from the camera, the other sense that was influenced from these film is the scene in our film  with the wide shot inside the University,   when the character is walking down the stairs. And the third influence in our film is The psychology of dream analysis by  Rian Johnson, for this film we were influenced by the idea of the dream sequence, what we liked about these film is the whole idea of the way the film is told and how it always comes back to the character sleeping,  this reminds us that its in her dreams. Not only that but the colour and lighting in the film, and how its very light in her face when she's asleep and how sometimes in the film its only half of her face filmed.

Our target audience for our film is both male and female. I would say that our film is aimed at people that that desire to know something or feel curies or even doubt. The reason why i say this is because in our film we just have two character walking  and passing by each other and therefore people that like to know or figure out things or  even imagine and create their own meaning to the story are the type of people who our film is aimed at. Having said this our film is aimed at people that like to watch experimental/ nonlinear film as that is the genre of our film. Our film is aimed at people that are the age of 18 and above and the reason why i say this is because that is how old the character is in the film and therefore  people that are in that age group can relate, and also because there is not a lot of people that are below that age that like to watch experimental films.

Looking back at my work as a member of audience i think that the weakness part of the film is telling the story well, and being able to understand what actually is happening in the film. The none-linear part of the story works well but needs to have a stronger idea of what's happening in the film. May be if I was to make that character do something rather than just make her walk would of made more sense to the film, so if i was to redo my  work i would of expanded the idea of the film more and made sure to include more story to the    film. What i think worked well in my film is that way it was shot, i liked how we had lots off different shots and the angle shots we used to produce our film. The other thing i was happy with our finished product was  how we used colour in our film to grab our audiences attention, i thought that this worked well in our film because not only does it grab your attention but also happened to have meanings in our film unintentionally.

To produce our film me and Myles done some pre production work so that we knew what we had to do when it came to filming. We said how i would be in-charge of the sound recording,he  would be in charge of filming and how we would both do the editing. When it came to the post production i done the sound and Myles done the filming,  having said this we did end up doing the post production practically all together and sharing our role. Because i was acting in it Myles had to do some of the recording for the sound and i would sometimes do the filming and come up with some angle shots and ways we can film. So all in one we worked well together as a team and had no problems when it came to  making our project.

When making our film some of the problems we faced would be weather and being able to  film in the church. We had problems with the rain and wasn't able to film on the days we planned we would, and this happened more than once so it killed our time. The other problem we faced was being able to film in the church,  we found that when ever we would go to the church it would be closed or people would be praying and so couldn't film. And if not that then there could be a constructions going on. This was hard for us to record the sound of the bell for the church, so we kept coming back and forth just for that bell sound, which also killed some of our time. We did go to another church to be able to achieve what we wanted to but the same problem accord and so we couldn't.

During the process of making this project i have learnt how to effectively work and communicate well with my partner. Every time something goes wrong or something is not going the way we accord it to happen, i have learnt how to solve as it as team. Not only that but making this project has helped me learn one or two creative skills from my partner. I Have learnt creatively how to make a film work and improve things through the process of editing.

Our strength in the process of this project would have to be working well as a team and being able to communicate and understand each other. I think that we worked well as a group because we would help one another and always let each other know if something was not going right. And also sharing roles and making sure we both had something to do.

Our weakness might be time management and not being able to come up with a clear idea of a film and having to twist and change it around so that it followed the brief.
